MOVIE: The Hangover

This was one of the few movies I was excited to see this summer, given the riotous trailer, the Mike Tyson cameo, and the super likable cast that includes Bradley Cooper (hottie from Alias), Ed Helms, piano playing stand up comedian Zach Galifianakis, and Hot Guy Of The Day honoree Justin Bartha.

Overall, the movie delivered lots of laughs and was a good way to spend 90 minutes. I think mainstream bromantic comedies still have a long way to go in terms of delivering three dimensional female characters who are likeable or unlikeable on their own merits. Although I think some credit should be given to the Apatow factory for making sincere efforts, and and at times succeeding. The Hangover however, sets it all back to square one by delivering purely perfunctory wives/girlfriends stereotypes. That is not to say that the male lead characters are any better drawn out- they all exist merely to support the funny plot lines.

Random factoids:

*My friend Julia cracked me up by stating afterwards "Zach Galifianakis's back must've hurt from carrying that movie."

*For fans of Old School, the wedding band that delighted with an F-word ridden rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" makes a welcome appearance.
